Homeschoolers Are Invited To Join Our New Cohort

An 8-Week Live, Discussion-Based Class for Upper Elementary–Middle School Learners
Designing for Change Founding Cohort

Designing for Change is a live, small-group virtual cohort for homeschool learners who are ready to think deeply, ask meaningful questions, and explore real-world issues together.

This facilitated learning experience blends English Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science into an engaging, discussion-based unit where student voice, curiosity, and choice are central. Learners meet live three days a week in a supportive, relationship-driven environment that values inquiry over worksheets and depth over busywork.

What is a Vibrant Minds Cohort?

A small group of learners who start together, learn together, and finish together.

Designing for Change is an 8-week virtual cohort designed specifically with homeschool families in mind. Rather than a traditional lecture-style class, this program follows a facilitated workshop model, where instruction, discussion, reading, and guided work are woven throughout each session.

Learners meet Tuesday–Thursday from 9:00–11:00 AM in a small group setting that encourages meaningful conversation, collaboration, and independent thinking. The instructor guides the learning, supports discussion, and provides direction, while also allowing time for students to read, work, and explore ideas together.

This format supports a wide range of learners and allows students to participate at their comfort level while gradually building confidence.

About the Unit: Designing for Change

This unit centers on understanding real-world problems and empowering students to think about how change happens.

In the first week, students begin reading A Long Walk to Water and explore the importance of clean water for survival, healthcare, and agriculture. From there, students brainstorm global and local problems they see in the world. As a group, learners help select additional issues to study, which may include topics such as climate change, homelessness, food insecurity, war, or other challenges meaningful to them.

As the unit progresses, students examine:

  • what causes these problems
  • who is affected and how
  • how communities and organizations respond
  • what solutions already exist

The final weeks shift toward independent research and action. Each student selects one issue to explore more deeply and develops either an activism or awareness project or a persuasive essay designed to inspire others to action.
